What is the SIPP?
The Severity Indices of Personality Problems (SIPP) is a self-report questionnaire aiming to measure the severity of the generic and changeable components of personality disorders. The SIPP is available in two versions: 1) a comprehensive diagnostic version (SIPP-118), and 2) a short form for research purposes (SIPP-SF), especially outcome research. Research focusing on the validity and other psychometric qualities of the SIPP is still in progress.
SIPP-118
The SIPP-118 consists of 118 items. The respondent is asked to answer on a 4-points scale to what extent he or she agrees with the statement presented. The instruction of the questionnaire is as follows: “This questionnaire consists of a series of statements about you. These statements refer to the last 3 months. By reporting to what extent you agree or disagree with each statement, you are describing how you have been over the last 3 months. You can do this by marking the box which best describes how you have been”. There are four response categories: 1 = fully disagree, 2 = partly disagree, 3 = partly agree, 4 = fully agree. The 118 items are assigned to one of 16 facets, which are clustered into 5 higher-order domains (see Table 1).
SIPP-SF
The SIPP-SF consists of 60 items. The respondent is asked to answer on a 4-points scale to what extent he or she agrees with the statement presented. The instruction of the questionnaire is as follows: “This questionnaire consists of a series of statements about you. These statements refer to the last 3 months. By reporting to what extent you agree or disagree with each statement, you are describing how you have been over the last 3 months. You can do this by marking the box which best describes how you have been”. There are four response categories: 1 = fully disagree, 2 = partly disagree, 3 = partly agree, 4 = fully agree. The 60 items are directly assigned to 5 higher-order domains.
